The only time Christmas was banned in England since its unification under Æthelstan was under Cromwell's Commonwealth - i.e., it was banned by Christians (or rather, they tried to abolish it).
Easter was supposed to go as well.
"festival days, vulgarly called Holy Days, having no warrant in the Word of God, are not to be continued."
"trappings of popery and rags of the beast"
etc.

Love the fact that there are plenty of spastics that get sucked in by the whole "banning christmas" "banning easter" media bullshit every year. Every year some newspaper/Britain First/UKIP twat makes this up and every year a whole load of idiots who never check the validity of what they read on Facebook get all huffy and puffy about it.

So Jesus would not care about exploiting children with sweeties and making money from his good name?. It is all tied to him is it not? if not tell the Christians. Yes it is Pagan but that does not stop people with absolute belief celebrating it. I will not get into an argument about whether Jesus existed but all I am very clearly saying is the way most things religious are celebrated has less to do with religion and more to do with powerful business making some money,

"We now launch our new product, manufactured under licence from our friendly* rivals the Pagans, the painted egg with its insides blown out**..."
*what's a few thousand crucifixions and stake-burnings between friends?
**the Christians could have patented their later product developments

geep.....that's surely too academic, This is a much more commercial enterprise. Those Pagans should have registered it as a trademark..

You don't have to be original all the time, but if you don't credit the author of an idea, that is plagiarism.

Little girls will be having Easter eggs tomorrow and an Easter egg hunt. The politically correct /religious fanatics should leave this alone....it's for kids for fucks sake if we are honest, with all it's inherent commercialism. Nothing more complicated than that

' they [chocolate bunnies] were created to water down Christianity'.
I don't think chocolate bunnies were created as part of a conspiracy against Christianity.
That's Golden Oldie territory.

Easter might have pagan origins but Pascha as it's known in Greek or Aramaic, was the term used for Passover, it then became applied to the resurrection

I have been in Friends' Meeting Houses a couple of times over the last few years.
They were covered in stuff pointing out how important the Quakers were in ending slavery.
Strangely, they omitted mention of the fact that many prominent Quakers, including ones they are still proud of, such as William Penn (founder of Pennsylvania), owned and traded slaves.

Re: Chocolate Eggs not Easter Eggs

No you didn't. Jesus (not that he existed) wouldn't GAF about eggs and bunnies, because Easter is a PAGAN festival on which Christians ride the coat tails.
Look up the origin of the word Easter.

The pacifist religious group known as the Quakers has been responsible for forming and running many well known companies. Pity most of them have sold out to mammon.
